Right-Lateral, Left Step-Over — Interactive 3D Fault Model
Right-Lateral, Left Step-Over — Interactive 3D Fault Model
Restraining step-over · transpression. Two right-lateral fault strands are offset, and the second one picks up where the first ends, stepping to the left. Oblique-reverse faults branch from the end of each strand and die out where they intersect the strand on the opposite side. Across the step-over between them, the blocks on either side converge.
An interactive 3D model of the full earthquake cycle on this fault: rotate, zoom and step through strain, rupture, seismic waves and offset. Works offline in any current browser on Windows, Mac or Chromebook, with no installs.
