Our “Creosote Cottage Earthquake Days” is an intimate, hands‑on earthquake geology and preparedness experience — during which you will learn about southern California tectonics, the San Andreas and other regional faults up close, then relax with family, friends, or colleagues while enjoying smoked foods, beverages, and taking in desert sunset vibes and views.

We offer a unique and intimate personal earthquake information and preparedness experience. Our aim is to help increase your earthquake knowledge and readiness, and also to ensure you remember what you learned while enjoying the time you spend with us.

Join us at at our amazing desert hub @creosote_cottage in Morongo Valley for a partial-day (contact for pricing) or full‑day (contact for pricing), small‑group earthquake and geology experience that blends science, safety, and genuine desert hospitality. Situated just half a mile from the Pinto Mountain Fault Zone and two miles from the San Andreas, our cottage is the perfect hub to explore southern California tectonics in context.

Your day (8:00 am to ~10:00 pm) begins with arrival, a light continental breakfast, and a relaxed meet‑and‑greet. A guided classroom session reviews regional geology, plate tectonics, fault mechanics, and practical personalized preparedness strategies. Near midday we travel in a comfortable 10–12 passenger van to nearby geologic highlights where we hike to fault exposures. At field sites you will see fault traces and learn about landscape impacts up close while your guide explains fault geomorphology, fault slip behavior, and what earthquake signatures may look like after a future event.

Lunch is provided in the field — cold drinks, snacks, fruit, and “make your own” sandwiches — followed by 3 to 4 hours of guided hiking across one to three different fault locations. Expect moderate walking/hiking on uneven terrain, variable weather conditions, hands‑on observation and explanation, and Q&A tailored to your curiosity and interests.

Returning to @creosote_cottage, the afternoon winds down to the evening with social time and signature cocktails, desert sunset vibes and views of Morongo Valley and Mt. San Jacinto. For dinner, handcrafted smoked‑foods featuring freshly prepared meats, sides, various beverage options (2 adult adult beverages included) and desserts. Groups are intentionally small (8 - 10 people) to maximize interaction, safety, and a memorable experience. Guests are welcome to close out their evening at their own pace.
